Běžná lepenka má silné lepidlo, které při odlepení strhne barvu i primer, hrubší hranu, pod kterou barva podteče, a zanechává lepkavé zbytky. Modelářská páska má lepivost záměrně nízkou a řízenou, ostře řezanou hranu a po sejmutí je povrch čistý.

Washi je tenký japonský papír. Je poddajný, takže se dobře přizpůsobí povrchu a nevytváří tlusté schodky na hraně barvy, a přitom se snadno a čistě řeže skalpelem — z pásky si tak lze vyřezat masku libovolného tvaru.

Na mírné zakřivení ano, ale šestimilimetrová šířka je stavěná především na rovné linie a plochy. Na výraznější oblouky je lepší použít tažnou pásku určenou přímo pro křivky, která se v oblouku nezkrabatí.

Hranu pásky po nalepení pořádně přitlačte párátkem nebo nehtem, barvu nanášejte v tenkých vrstvách a nemiřte proudem pod hranu. Masku pak sundávejte pomalu a pod ostrým úhlem.
