A finished metal model of the Cromwell Mk.IV artillery observation tank, 5th Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, Villers-Bocage 1944, 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Cromwell was a British cruiser tank that bet on speed: it was powered by the Rolls-Royce Meteor engine derived from the Merlin aero V12 and ran on Christie suspension with large road wheels. The angular boxy hull and the low turret make it an easily recognizable machine of the second half of the war.
This version did not serve for close combat but for directing artillery fire. An observer laid the batteries onto a target from it, and for that purpose the vehicle received additional radio equipment. What mattered was that outwardly it does not differ from the combat Cromwells: the observation machine could therefore move among the tanks of a unit without drawing attention to itself. The markings refer to the 5th Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and to Villers-Bocage in June 1944, that is to one of the best known engagements of the Normandy campaign.
This is a finished collector model, not a kit. From the factory it is assembled, painted and provided with printed markings, and the metal form gives it a noticeable weight. Once unpacked it is enough to stand it in a display case.
The model is supplied finished and is not meant for any further assembly. A display case, a base, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
