A 2 mm sintered carbide scriber from Border Model — a versatile width of carbide edge for scribing panel lines and surface detail on plastic models.
Responsibility details are not available.
A modeling scriber with a carbide edge 2 mm wide. Sintered carbide is a material used for machining tools — it is considerably harder than tool steel, so the scriber does not lose its edge even with frequent work on hard plastics, cured fillers or resin. The two-millimeter width is a sensible middle of the range: fine enough for ordinary panel lines, yet pronounced enough that the line does not disappear once sprayed and accented with a dark shade.
In practice it helps to guide the tool along a firm guide — a steel ruler, a flexible template or the edge of masking tape stuck down in several layers. Create the groove gradually with several light strokes; the resulting line is then straight, evenly deep and without torn edges. The burrs that arise need only a light pass with fine abrasive paper or a polishing sponge.
A versatile width from the range, and therefore a good first choice for modelers who are starting out with scribing lines. For the more experienced it will serve as a basic tool to be completed with finer and wider variants according to the scale and the type of model. The carbide edge makes it equipment for years, not a consumable.
A sharp tool — keep it out of the reach of children and guide the cut away from your hand. The carbide edge resists blunting but is brittle, so protect it from falls and from sideways leverage.
