A replacement floor board for the model of the four-axle Ssy 45 railway car, which after the war found its way into the fleet of the German federal railways under the designation Rlmmp 700. The grain is divided into individual planks, including the gaps and the fixing points, so after glazing the area looks like real plank flooring.
The Ssy 45 came about as a wartime type for fifty-ton consignments but, unlike most equipment of its time, it lived to see a long peacetime career. Repaired examples carried construction machinery, transformers and the equipment of the postwar German army for decades. Thanks to that the model suits scenes from the mid-1940s all the way to the 1970s, a span of time that other cars will not offer.
Fit the floor only after painting the underside of the car, or masking becomes awkward. The planks take plenty of work: first shade the individual boards, then bring out the gaps and finally add light scuffs where the crew walked over the area. Postwar examples tended to be more markedly worn than the wartime ones, so here you do not have to hold back with rubbing and patches.
