Gunze Mr.Color GGX Rapid Thinner

A fast-drying thinner from the Japanese manufacturer Gunze (GSI Creos), developed — like the basic version — exclusively for the lacquer (solvent-based) Mr.Color GGX range of paints. The difference lies in the speed of evaporation: this thinner flashes off faster. The paint therefore dries before it can level out completely on the surface, and that is exactly what is wanted with matte and metallic shades — both the matte finish and the metallic effect benefit when the pigment and the aluminum particles catch on the surface instead of being flooded into a gloss film. A slow thinner, by contrast, suppresses matteness. The package contains the liquid alone, no paints.

Use

• Thinning matte and metallic Mr.Color GGX shades for airbrushing.
• It suits anywhere you need to shorten the drying time between coats — during multi-coat shading, for example, or in a cooler and more humid environment.
• For gloss and semi-gloss GGX shades choose the basic (slower) version of the thinner instead — with the rapid thinner gloss is harder to reach, as the surface does not have time to level out.
• Because of the faster evaporation it is especially important to watch the thinning ratio and the cleanliness of the nozzle — an airbrush tends to dry at the tip sooner.
• Do not thin GGX paints with the ordinary thinner of the Mr.Color range; the manufacturer explicitly advises against it.
• Always test the thinning ratio on a test piece of plastic, not straight on the model.

Who it is for

For modelers working with Mr.Color GGX paints who spray matte camouflage, matte accessory colors or metallic shades and want a faster work sequence. It is practical above all on military vehicles and aircraft in matte schemes, where the depth of the matte finish matters more than the smoothness of a gloss coat.
