Tamiya XF-86 Flat Clear (10 ml)

Tamiya XF-86 Flat Clear from Tamiya is a matte (flat) clear acrylic varnish supplied in a glass bottle with a volume of 10 ml. The XF designation in the Tamiya system marks a matte shade, and the word Clear a transparent varnish without pigment. It creates an even matte overcoat that protects the model and at the same time unifies the final sheen of the whole surface. It is used as the last layer after painting and after applying the decals.

Use

• a final matte protective overcoat on a finished, painted model
• unifying the sheen of the surface into a matte finish, suppressing unwanted gloss of the paints
• flattening and sealing the decals so that no glossy edges of the carrier film remain on the surface
• thinned with Tamiya X-20A acrylic thinner and applied with a brush or an airbrush in thin coats
• suitable as a base for subsequent weathering techniques (washes, pigments), which hold better on a matte surface

Suitable for modelers who want to flatten their finished models, protect the surface and prepare it for weathering techniques. It comes into its own on military vehicles, aircraft and figures, where a realistic matte look is wanted.
