The saturated yellow shade Nuclear Yellow from the Xpress Color acrylic line by Vallejo. A single coat gives a figure both its base tone and its shading.

Nuclear Yellow is a sharp yellow pulled toward green from the Xpress Color line by Vallejo. It is not an earthy ocher or a warm sunny yellow but a color meant to look unnatural at first glance: it fits the glowing parts of sci-fi hardware, the poisonous and luminous areas of fantasy figures, warning stripes and the small lighting accents that are there to draw the eye on a model.
Xpress Color is a water-based acrylic line built for a single coat. The paint is deliberately thin: once applied it slides into the recesses, where it darkens, while on the raised parts only a thin film stays and reads lighter. The base tone and the shading therefore appear at once. Coverage is only partial, so the base underneath decides the result. It is thinned with water or with the thinner intended for this line.
Yellow pigment covers less well than most others and loses both brightness and purity over a dark base. Lay a white or light gray base under the paint, and go for white if you want a particularly luminous result. Apply the paint generously and let it flow; do not brush it out dry, or the transition between light and shadow will be broken. Pulling the excess off the raised areas with the tip of the brush sharpens the contrast further.
It is aimed at painters of tabletop gaming figures who want a fast result without laborious layering, and at builders of sci-fi subjects with glowing parts.
The package holds the paint alone; brushes and thinner are not included, unless stated otherwise.
