The metallic shade Xpress Starship Steel with a cold steel sheen. It unifies machine parts and at the same time creates darker nooks in their relief, so shading the metal separately becomes unnecessary.
Responsibility details are not available.
Starship Steel is a metallic tone aimed at machinery and spacecraft. It contains metallic particles, so the surface reflects light once dry, but at the same time it behaves like the other paints of this family and draws into the recesses. The result is a metal that has relief from the very start and does not look like an evenly sprayed foil.
The standard route to the same look has two steps: first a metallic paint is laid down and once it has dried a dark wash is drawn over it to accent the rivets and the seams. That second step is the source of two usual nuisances. First, a thinner-based wash is able to bite into the metallic layer beneath it and pull it off. Second, a wash mixed by hand cannot be repeated exactly, so the second part of the same machine comes out differently from the first. Here both fall away, because the shadow arises inside the same layer.
Metallic particles settle to the bottom faster than an ordinary pigment, so the shaking has to be thorough and is repeated during longer work. For a glossier result the shade is laid over a smooth dark base, for more worn metal over a gray one. It is advisable to wash the brush out straight after work, as metallic particles dry hard in it.
