This is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a plastic kit. The space under the hinged covers is very visible in a large scale and the plastic molding only suggests it; fine metal makes it possible to add walls, stiffeners, brackets and runs of pipework. Check the exact make-up of the package against the illustration on the packaging.
The North American F-100 Super Sabre was an American single-seat jet combat aircraft with a swept wing. On this range the gun armament was housed in the lower forward part of the fuselage, accessible through hinged covers for servicing and maintenance. The F-100C version was conceived as a fighter-bomber with a wing adapted to carry fuel, an in-flight refueling probe and underwing pylons. The spaces for the guns and their accessories were densely packed on aircraft of this generation.
Deal with the bay before you close the forward part of the fuselage. Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the bends in a bender, so that the edges stay straight. Degrease the metal and cover it with a primer. They are glued with cyanoacrylate in tiny drops, and with slow-setting epoxy on larger surfaces. Paint and shade the interior before you seat the small parts — there is no maneuvering with a brush in a deep bay. A dark wash into the corners and gentle drybrushing along the edges will give the space depth. The covers can be built hinged open so that the work is visible.
