The photo-etched F-100F slats 1:32 set refines the leading-edge slats of the wing on a model of the two-seat North American F-100F Super Sabre. It is an accessory for a model, not an aircraft kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set of photo-etched parts covers the slats on the leading edge of the wing of an F-100F Super Sabre model in 1:32 scale. Injection-molded plastic simplifies this area, because the molds cannot create a sufficiently thin edge. Photo-etched sheet, by contrast, holds a realistic thickness and also offers the inner surfaces that are visible when the high-lift devices are extended. The set is used as an addition to, or a replacement for, the plastic parts of the base kit.
The F-100 Super Sabre was the first production supersonic aircraft of the US Air Force. The two-seat F-100F version has two seats one behind the other and was originally created for training, later finding use in other specialized roles as well. The slats on the leading edge of the swept wing improved the aircraft's behavior at low speed, that is above all on takeoff and landing, where a swept wing is more prone to flow separation.
Cut the parts off as close to the tab as possible and sand the remainder down on a glass surface. Make the bends in a bender or over a steel rule, gradually and without pulling at the sheet. Before gluing, degrease the metal with alcohol and lay on a thin primer, or the paint will not hold. Apply cyanoacrylate with a pin in small drops. Fit extended slats only after the wing has been painted, so that the slots do not get clogged with paint. If you want to show the slats extended, bear in mind that the leading edge of the plastic wing has to be modified as well.
