A plastic kit from the series of stylized egg models from the manufacturer AFV Club. This is not a scale model in a faithful scale but a deliberately shortened caricature of the F-5E jet aircraft, exaggerated in its proportions, with a large cockpit, a short bulbous fuselage and tiny wings. The package holds clear parts and decals for the striking color scheme of the American naval squadron Sundowners, that is VFC-111. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted and is glued with ordinary cement for plastic.
The subject is the light supersonic twin-engine F-5, which in the US Navy is used in the role of a so-called aggressor, that is a machine that simulates an opponent in pilot training. The Sundowners squadron carries conspicuous color markings with a sun motif on its aircraft, which are among the most recognizable in US naval aviation. That is exactly why the scheme suits a stylized model as well, where the color comes out even more than it does on a faithful scale model. The product name has the squadron designation garbled; correctly it is VFC-111.
The build is quick, there are few parts and the model stands on a base or straight on its landing gear. Paint the cockpit and the seat before closing up the fuselage. Because the whole charm of the model lies in the colors, a proper white base under the light shades and a gloss clear coat under the decals pay off, so that no so-called silvering shows through at the edges. At the end a matte or a satin clear coat is enough, to taste.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
