Fall Beech

A beech in fall colors

A fall crown can fix the month of a scene more precisely than any other detail. The beech, with its smooth gray bark and warm leaf color, is among the species in which that difference is most striking, and that is why it turns up often on dioramas. The supplier describes it as a deciduous broadleaf tree with gray bark, popular in residential districts and prized precisely for its fall color.

The model is finished, measures 10.1 cm and is supplied one piece at a time. It suits a garden, the edge of a wood or the area by a house, where it makes a clearly legible accent of color.

Fall on a diorama

A colored tree calls for surroundings that match it. When the terrain beneath it is fresh green, the impression falls apart; but it is enough to add fallen leaves around the trunk and dry grass along a path and the scene begins to make sense. Combining one fall tree with several still green ones also works, because in reality species do not turn all at the same time either.

The gray trunk is a marked feature on a beech and it pays to let it show, which means not hiding the lower part of the crown right down to the ground.

What is included

One finished, planted tree is supplied. The terrain, the fallen leaves and the fixing material are not in the package and are bought separately.

A small thing on the ground will make a fall scene believable too. A handful of fine material in a warm shade around the trunk suggests fallen leaves that the wind has swept against a wall or into a ditch, and the viewer will put the season together alone.

The tree also suits a railroad, where a colored crown in the background breaks up the monotonous green wall along the line.
