DSPIAE FB-15 - tungsten drill with a flat face, 1.5 mm

A precision drill from the brand DSPIAE in tungsten material, 1.5 mm in diameter and with a flat face. It differs from an ordinary twist drill in the shape of the bottom of the hole: a classic drill leaves a cone at the bottom, while this one creates a flat face. That is a difference visible everywhere a hole stays exposed - at the muzzles of gun and machine gun barrels, at exhausts, at lights and instruments, at recesses for magnets or pins, and when cleaning up circular hollows on parts.

Use

• Mark the center of the future hole first with a point or a needle; a drill with a flat face slides easily on a smooth surface.
• Drill slowly and without side pressure - tungsten tools are very hard but at the same time brittle and will snap if levered.
• In a motor tool, run at low speed. High speed heats the plastic, melts it and sticks it to the edge.
• On deeper holes, withdraw the tool now and then and clear the chips, so that it does not clog.
• Smaller diameters like this one call for a particularly light hand - replace force with patience.

Maintenance and storage

After work, wipe the drill and store it so that the edge does not touch other tools. A battered or chipped face will no longer make a flat bottom. In soft plastic the tool lasts a very long time, while harder materials such as resin or cured print wear it faster.
