Handling areas, the approaches to a quarry, the yards of sawmills and transfer points never look like a carefully rolled county road. Heavy vehicles push the fine material out to the sides, coarser stone gets to the surface and the area stays uneven, with puddles in the ruts and pushed-up ridges between them. This scatter is intended for precisely such areas: it has a noticeably larger grain than the fine version of the same color, and that is why it keeps its character on a model even where it is worked with in a larger scale.
The bag carries 176 cm3 of stone, the supplementary powder has a volume of 29.4 cm3 and serves to finish the edges and the places where stone is missing. The coverage given corresponds to a strip 4.26 m long and 5.08 cm wide, which for an ordinary home layout is enough with a reserve.
Besides roads it suits slopes under retaining walls, fill by the tracks and heaps of material at a building site. If you want to achieve the impression of a worn road, apply the coarse layer first, let it dry and only then rub the finer material or the powder into the ruts. Between doses it pays off to step back and look at the area from the edge of the layout, because from the height of a viewer's eyes the unevenness is judged quite differently than from above.
