Gun Metal from the OILBRUSHER range is an oil paint in a 10 ml bottle with a brush built into the cap. It is applied straight from the bottle, with no palette and no prior thinning. It is a modeling paint, not a kit. The shade is the darkest of the metallic trio, a dark metal with a hint of blue-gray, exactly as blued weapon steel looks.

When to reach for Gun Metal and not for Steel

Choose Gun Metal where the metal is meant to look dark, cold and oily: weapon barrels, breeches, muzzles and muzzle brakes, machine guns and their mounts, metal parts of weapons and worn, blackened steel surfaces. The lighter and brighter Steel suits freshly chipped spots and polished metal more; if an area is not meant to shine but on the contrary to sink into shadow, Gun Metal is the right choice.

Use

• The pigment settles at the bottom, so stir the bottle thoroughly before every use, otherwise you lay down binder alone with no metallic effect.
• Metallic shades in oil form are excellent for drybrushing edges and chipping: load a little paint, wipe the excess onto a cloth and pass lightly over edges and raised areas.
• It serves for shading, stippling and picking out edges, not as a covering coat.
• It dries slowly, so it stays blendable for a long time, and you can blend the metallic hint into the surface at your leisure or pull it off again.
• It is thinned and blended with odorless thinner or mineral spirits, not with water.
• Apply it onto a cured painted surface.

For builders of military vehicles, figures and weapons who want realistic dark metal without an airbrush and without working oils up on a palette.

It contains solvents and is flammable. Use in a well ventilated space, do not inhale the fumes and protect your skin and airways. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition.
