This is a collector resin figure that the modeler assembles, sands and paints. It is not a finished painted product and not a kit of a vehicle or an aircraft. The 54 mm size is a long established figure format in modeling: it is large enough for the detail of the face, hair, cloth and metal fittings to stand out, while the figure is still easy to display on a shelf or in a small cabinet. The number of parts, the height of the finished figure and the contents of the package, including a base if there is one, are stated on the box.
The Saxons were a Germanic people whose groups moved along the coast of the North Sea during the Migration Period, roughly in the 5th century, and took part in the settlement of the British Isles. Surviving archaeological finds from this period include simple woolen and linen gear, leather belts, round shields with a metal boss and the short single-edged weapon of the seax type, from which the name of the people is traditionally derived. Figures from this period are rewarding for a painter precisely because they combine coarser textiles, leather and polished metal.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap, which removes the remains of mold release agent on which paint would not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a knife and never snap them off; use respiratory protection while sanding, because resin dust is fine. Glue the parts with super glue, and on larger joins a drop of thicker gel will help. A thin coat of primer follows, ideally sprayed. Skin and fabrics on 54 mm figures are traditionally painted with oil paints or with acrylics in several translucent layers, because those allow smooth transitions between light and shadow; the metal parts come to life after a dry brush and a fine highlight on the edges.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
