A collection of paints grows faster than one expects. At first a few bottles beside the mat are enough; a year later there are several dozen and hunting for one shade takes longer than the painting itself. A storage box with drawers sorts that clutter out: the bottles have their place, they stand upright and they do not take up the working area.
The drawers hold the bottles upright, so paint does not stay on the cap and dry in the thread. A closed box at the same time protects the contents from dust and from direct light. And when the bench needs to be cleared, you move the whole box with its contents at once instead of carrying bottles by the handful.
It is worth dividing the drawers according to how you work: the shades you use all the time in one, pigments in another and finishing materials in a third. Label the drawers; it saves pulling them open blind. Put heavier bottles in the lower drawers and the box will stand more firmly. A dried drop of paint is hard to get off the wall of a drawer, so wipe it away at once while it is still wet. Place the box away from where you spray, so that atomized paint does not settle in the drawers.
