The Horseback Riders set belongs to the line of scenic accessories of the American brand Woodland Scenics for HO scale (1:87). It holds figures of horses and matching figures of riders, so that a whole riding group can be built. The animals and the figures are modeled in detail and hand-painted; they are supplied finished and are only set in place.
A riding group is a rewarding motif, because it brings both movement and direction into a scene. It suits a dirt road along the track, a ranch, a forest trail, a ford across a stream or landscape where there would otherwise be nothing to watch. At the same time it is one of the few accessories with which an open area between stations can be brought to life without having to build another building.
Set the group out in a loose file one behind another, not side by side in a row, because riders on a narrow path go one after the other. Turn the horses slightly, so that the scene does not look stiff. The figures are seated on the horses before gluing; while handling them, hold them by the body of the animal, as the legs of the casting are the thinnest part. Glue with a spot drop of cyanoacrylate glue; on grassy terrain PVA glue holds as well. Matte varnish evens out the gloss and light pigment on the lower parts of the legs settles the animals into a dusty road. Shades may differ slightly between production runs.
The figures are supplied finished and hand-painted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
