About product

Real Colors RC881 IDF Sand Grey, 17 ml

A modeling paint from the Real Colors range by AK Interactive, the manufacturer's part number RC881, in a 17 ml package. The abbreviation IDF stands for the Israel Defense Forces. The name sets the shade as a sand gray for the period of the 1970s and 1980s, that is a light tone between sand and gray.

The color

Israeli ground vehicles wore a single-color finish tuned to dry country, and its tone shifted gradually from a warmer sand toward a cooler gray. This shade belongs to the middle part of that path. On a model it forms the overall surface of armored and wheeled vehicles, onto which the markings, the stowage and the traces of service then sit.

How to work with the paint

  • Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly before you draw any out, as the pigment settles to the bottom.
  • A light tone calls for an even surface, or joints and filled spots will show through.
  • Build the paint up from thin coats, so that welds, engraved lines and hatches stay readable.
  • Grade the surface: lighten the middle of the panels and leave the areas around the seams and the wheel arches darker.
  • For thinning and for cleaning the tools, use the thinner meant for the Real Colors range; the ratio is given by the manufacturer's instructions.

Packaging and storage

Close the bottle carefully after work and keep it away from heat and frost. Paint that has thickened can be thinned; check the shade on a sample afterwards. The package holds one bottle of paint of 17 ml. Thinner, brushes, an airbrush and a model are not included, unless stated otherwise.
