About product

Model Scene Spring field

A finished scenery part imitating a field in spring, that is cultivated soil with low, only just emerging vegetation. Compared with a meadow the growth is markedly lower and more regular and bare earth is visible between the rows, which immediately tells a field apart from free-growing grass in a model. It is not a kit and not a loose material; the piece is only laid down and glued.

What the vegetation looks like and where it fits

A field is a strong narrative element in a scene: it says that the landscape is farmed and gives the composition a clear direction, because the rows lead the eye. It works excellently along a country track, behind a yard, around a village building or as an area a vehicle drives across and leaves marks in. The spring version with low green growth also does not cover the terrain and lets the modeled surface of the soil stand out.

Usage tips

Lay the growth only onto finished, painted and dusted terrain. Try the intended spot dry first, tear or cut the piece to an irregular shape as needed, since a sharp straight edge does not arise in nature. It is glued with PVA wood glue, and a drop of cyanoacrylate will serve for a firm hold on a hard substrate. Hide the transition between the growth and the surrounding soil with a sprinkled fine scatter, grit or pigment, so that the growth does not look like a glued-on carpet. You can match the coloring with a light overspray of heavily thinned paint from above or by dusting with pigment, always only very lightly and once dry. With a field, watch the direction of the rows: it should follow the shape of the plot and the track, not run at random. Breaking the growth with ruts from a vehicle or a worn footpath adds a story to a scene.

Who it is for

  • dioramas with rural and agricultural landscape
  • scenes from spring and the start of the growing season
  • modelers who want to tell a field apart from a meadow
  • layouts and scenery bases

This is a scenery accessory for building a diorama, not a model kit. The base, the glue and any further materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The growth is lower and more regular and cultivated earth shows through between the rows.

The rows should follow the shape of the plot and the track. A random direction gives a scene away at once.

No, the coloring is finished. It can be matched to a scene only by a light dusting with pigment after gluing.

No. It is a scenery accessory for building a diorama; nothing is built from it.
