A round nickel silver wire of 0.1 mm diameter. Harder and springier than copper, it does not oxidize green. For antennas, cables, control rods, pins and the stiffening of the finest details.
Responsibility details are not available.
Nickel silver is an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc. There is no silver in it at all; the name comes from the light color it keeps even after years. Against brass it is harder and springier, against copper considerably stronger, and above all it does not go green in air, so a finished detail does not dull even on a model that has stood in a display case for years.
A diameter of a tenth of a millimeter is on the edge of visibility. It is not a wire in the ordinary sense but rather a metal hair, which in 1:72 or 1:48 scale does not draw attention to itself and yet is noticeably stronger than a stretched thread. It is used for antennas and their tensioners, for the cables and lightning conductors of ship models, for control rods, for handles, for the connecting pins of small parts and for stiffening fragile photo-etched components.
It is cut with nippers, not with a knife, as a knife flattens the material. A kinked piece is straightened by drawing it between your fingernails or with a light pull over an edge. A micro drop of super glue is enough to secure it, but the material also takes soldering, which is not always the case with thin brass wire. Smooth metal does not hold paint on its own, so degrease the part before spraying and cover it with a primer.
The manufacturer supplies the same alloy in thicker diameters up to one millimeter as well, and along with it thin-walled tubes into which the wire can be slid as into a guide sleeve, creating a telescopic joint or a firm mounting for a rotating part.
A part that is to stand exactly perpendicular should be glued into a pre-drilled hole, not onto the surface. A drill of a tenth of a millimeter breaks easily in a micro drill, so choose low speed and press as little as possible. The hole then grips the profile and the joint survives later handling of the model.
