A casting mold for layered stone of the kind that arises by deposition on the beds of seas and rivers. Flexible and intended for repeated pouring of plaster, with an area of 12.7 x 17.7 cm.
Responsibility details are not available.
Deposited rock is recognized at once: horizontal bands of varying thickness and color run across it, because each of them is a different episode of the laying down of mud, sand or calcareous silt. This mold is advised everywhere the earth laid material down in layers, that is for the beds of ancient seas, for river channels and for the cuttings that uncovered such rock.
The layers have to keep the same dip on all the castings. Real sedimentary rock was laid down horizontally and later movements tilted it as a whole, so two neighboring blocks cannot have bands horizontal in one and vertical beside it. Anyone composing a face from several pieces should mark the direction on the terrain with a pencil before gluing. This one small thing separates an amateur rock from one that even a geologist believes.
In color, layered stone is suited by having the individual bands set apart from one another. Once the basic glaze is dry it is enough to go over only the edges of the projecting layers with a dry brush with a little light paint; the eye then reads the pattern by itself and the lighting of a whole face improves at once. The work can be broken off at any time and the next casting poured only a week later.
