About product

An imitation of marble and granite as a printed sheet

The sheet from the manufacturer ETA diorama belongs among the paper accessories for building dioramas, vignettes and interior scenes. Stone surfaces are among the hardest materials to imitate — neither the veining of marble nor the graininess of granite is easy to paint convincingly with a brush. A printed sheet shortens this work: you cut out the shape you need, glue it on and get straight to seating it into a scene.

Where the surface fits

Typically the floors of entrance halls, paving in public spaces, the tops of tables and counters, the tiling of plinths, stair treads or bases under statues and busts. Bases are a particularly rewarding use: polished stone creates a contrast to a matte figure or machine and draws the eye to the main element of a scene.

Trimming, gluing and joints

Glue the paper onto a flat and degreased base, best onto a plastic sheet or smoothly sanded card — every unevenness of the undercoat will show through in a glossy surface. Apply a thin continuous layer of PVA glue and press the paper down with a soft roller or the edge of a rule from the center outward. If you want paving from individual pieces, cut the sheet into regular parts and glue them with a minimal gap; then fill the joints with dark pigment or a very thinned dark paint, which runs in and brings the joins out.

Sheen, patina and the finish

The stone surface is unified with clear coat according to your intention: a gloss or satin coat imitates polished marble, a matte one rather honed granite or an older worn floor. Keep the patina in check — with polished stone fine streaks and dust in the corners are enough, otherwise the surface loses its character. Go over the cut edges around the perimeter with a dark paint, so that the white paper does not give itself away.

Who the sheet is for

  • Builders of interior dioramas, vignettes and bases.
  • Figure modelers looking for an effective base under a model.
  • Anyone interested in architectural scenes with paving and tiling.
  • Modelers who do not want to paint stone veining by hand.

It is a printed paper accessory for a diorama. Glue, paints and other material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The stone texture can be used in several scales, depending on how large a piece you cut out.

Once it is glued, spray the surface with a gloss or satin clear coat. A matte coat, on the contrary, imitates honed or worn stone.

Cut the sheet into regular parts, glue them with a minimal gap and bring the joints out with dark pigment or thinned dark paint.

The make-up of the patterns is determined by the manufacturer of the sheet. Once unpacked, lay the parts out according to the actual printing and only then cut.
