Purple tends to be the color of game components that is missing from the basic box. As soon as you invite another player to your own scenario or need to tell a faction apart from the rest of the table, purple is exactly the choice that does not overlap with blue, red or green. According to the name the meeple has a dimension of 16 x 16 x 8 mm, so it keeps pace with common game boards.
When you hold to the rule at the table that one color always means the same thing, following the state of the game gets markedly simpler. Purple can then be set aside firmly for one role, for instance for the non-player side, and nobody will mistake it for their own meeples. This kind of understanding lasts longer than slips of paper and notes beside the board.
For players who alter and extend their games, for gaming clubs with a higher number of players at one table and for creators of their own scenarios. It will also be appreciated by anybody who stores components by color and wants the same order in the box and in an organizer as on the table.
