This product is not a model and not a kit but a tool. Border Model offers the scribing tips separately and the handle for them separately, so you can buy as many holders as you commonly use widths of tip and do not have to swap them during the work. The red anodized variant is easy to find on a bench even among tools of other brands.

Use

• Before clamping, check that the tip is clean and free of plastic residue, or it will not seat straight.
• Hold the handle like a pencil and deepen the groove gradually, in one direction of stroke.
• A knurled metal surface slips less in wet or greasy fingers than smooth plastic, but degrease your hands before the work anyway.
• Dose the pressure with your fingers, not your wrist; the hand then holds the line even after longer work.
• Do not leave the holder lying on the edge of the bench; a fall onto the tip usually ruins it.

Who it is for

It suits builders who restore panel lines sanded away while cleaning up parts, and anyone working with several widths of scribing who does not want to keep moving them into a single handle. The greater weight of metal keeps the tool on axis and lowers the risk of the tip slipping off the line. For modelers who scribe only occasionally it is more of an extra than a necessity. It is practical to have the handles distinguished by color and to keep one of them permanently for the tip you work with most often.

The tool works with very sharp tips. Use a firm cutting mat, draw the stroke away from your free hand and store the tool out of the reach of children.
