The second volume of the illustrated guide to painting metal surfaces from the instructional range of AK Interactive. It covers metallic effects on figures, the technique of painting metal without metallic paints, working with light and shadow, polished metals and blued steel.
Responsibility details are not available.
Whatever a modeler works on, sooner or later a part comes along that has to look like metal. There are several routes to such a result: enamel paints, waxes, self-adhesive metal foils. The publication sums up what each approach can do, where its limits are and how the individual methods are combined, so that the surface does not come across as a silver coat of paint but as a worn material with a history of its own.
Where the first volume lays the foundations, this one concentrates on figures, both historical and fantasy. A substantial part is taken up by the technique in which a metallic look is painted with ordinary paints without a single metallic pigment; the result rests purely on a well-thought-out arrangement of highlights and shadows. Polished surfaces, blued steel and a series of smaller tricks from experienced painters follow. The examples range from robots and spacecraft to historical figures.
It is of use to the figure painter who wants to move on from a flat silver coat to a convincing weapon or suit of armor, and to the builder of technical models looking for a way to handle metal parts without metallic paints. The procedure is explained step by step in photographs, so it can be followed even without previous experience of painting metal.
It is the sequel to the first volume on the same subject; the two volumes follow on from each other, but each of them stands up on its own as well.
