Belgian machines after re-equipping

For the Belgian Air Force the eighties meant the replacement of almost the whole fleet. The brown and green camouflage of the older types was replaced by the gray finishes of the fighters, and beside them appeared a varied group of helicopters, which kept a color scheme of their own. The set of eight shades captures both.

The gray line is made up of Light Ghost Grey (FS36375) on the lower surfaces, Gunship Grey (FS36118) on the upper ones and Grey (FS36270) on the upper and side areas. This trio covers the upgraded fighters of the AM and BM versions, and the first two tones named come into their own on the Alpha Jet trainers as well, where they divide the underside and the spine.

The second group is made up of a pair to the British standard, BS Olive Green (BS381C:220) and BS Light Stone (BS381C:361). Both belong on the overall camouflage of the search and rescue helicopters Sea King Mk.48, which runs across the upper and lower surfaces without a dividing line. International Orange is tied to them, that is the approximate tone of the conspicuous warning markings with which both these helicopters and the Alpha Jet trainers of the 1B version were fitted.

The newest equipment

The last two shades aim at the present. Light Gull Grey (FS36440) is the overall color of the naval multirole NH90 helicopters intended for anti-submarine warfare and for rescue flights, while Dark Green (FS34079) is carried by the tactical transport NH90 and the light Agusta A109BA helicopters. Anyone building the whole helicopter part of the fleet will practically manage with the contents of a single box, because the dark green is used overall without a second tone.
