Mothers with children in the city

Figures of children are among the most valuable things that can be added to a layout. They give away the scale faster than anything else: as soon as a viewer sees an adult and a child figure side by side, he stops perceiving the whole scene as a model.

Three pairs

One of the mothers is pushing a stroller. A second sits with her child and, by the posture of both, is waiting for a connection. A third holds a child in her arms and with the other hand pulls a stroller along behind her, in a position every parent recognizes. In all the package holds three adult women and three children.

What to keep in mind

The sitting pair needs a bench, and that is not in the package. It pays to get one at the same time, because a sitting figure placed without a support looks out of place in a scene and draws attention to the wrong thing. Choose the size of the seat according to a ratio of 1:87.

Where to place the group

They suit a bus stop, a platform, a park or the front of a shop best. The three pairs do not have to be kept together: the mother with the stroller can walk along the sidewalk somewhere quite different from the pair on the bench, and the scene gains by it, because no impression of an organized group arises, which looks artificial on a layout.

Children and proportions

Figures of children tend to be the place where scale models most often go wrong. They are often made by simply reducing an adult figure, although a child has a considerably larger head and shorter limbs in proportion to the body. If you are going to add figures from other sources to the group, compare them with these first, because an ill-matched figure of a child stands out in a scene far more than an ill-matched adult.
