A starter set for painting one fantasy miniature: fourteen acrylic paints in dropper bottles of seventeen milliliters and with them an unpainted figure of a northern commander. The palette mixes cold blue tones with earthy browns and greens.
Responsibility details are not available.
A thegn is, in the northern warbands, a noble warrior who leads a company of his own and stands in the front rank in battle. The figure from this box belongs to a fantasy world in which the northern tribes of men, giants and wolf riders joined against an enemy from the south, and it carries matching equipment: a heavy cloak, mail armor and a one-handed weapon.
The choice of palette is not random and follows the needs of one particular figure. The cold half is held by smoke black, a dark blue ink, a gray blue meant directly for characters, a pale blue and a greenish white - that is tones for snow, steel and the pale skin of northerners. The warm half is formed by lemon yellow, beige red, crimson, sand buff, dark brown, British khaki, brownish green and Russian green. Leather, fur, wood and metal can thus be finished without buying further bottles.
The ink shade behaves differently from the others: it is translucent and instead of covering it runs into the folds, so it creates a shadow exactly where a hand would get it only with difficulty. The usual order of work leads from unifying the surface through dividing the areas with base tones and deepening the shadows with ink to pulling out the edges with a lightened tone. Dropper bottles dispense drop by drop, so the paint can easily be thinned and mixed on a palette.
The package makes sense both as a first step for a beginner and as a gift - everything needed lies together and nothing else has to be looked for.
