Pallete Droper Kit

A U-STAR palette with a dropper for mixing paints

It is not a paint and not a kit, but a working aid for painting. The set serves to take paint out of a bottle, to dose it a drop at a time and to mix it outside the original container. Thanks to that you do not spoil the contents of the bottle, you can mix your own shade in a small quantity, and when thinning you work with a repeatable ratio, because you count drops rather than pouring an estimated amount.

Precise dosing is exactly what matters with modeling paints. Thinning for an airbrush is commonly given in ratios, and merely pouring from the bottle makes the ratio hard to hit. A dropper makes it possible to add thinner gradually, to watch the consistency and to stop exactly where the paint still covers but already sprays well. Mixing on a palette moreover has the advantage that you see the paint in a thin layer and judge the resulting tone better.

Use

• Stir the paint in the bottle properly first, and only then take any out.
• Dose the paint you have taken out a drop at a time and note down the ratio with the thinner, so that you can repeat it next time.
• Try the shade you have mixed on an offcut of plastic or an old kit first, not straight on the model.
• Clean the aid immediately after work with a thinner matching the chemistry of the paint, as dried paint is harder to remove.
• For acrylic and lacquer paints use a separate dropper where possible, so that the chemistries do not mix.

Who the aid is for

For modelers who mix their own shades, thin paint for an airbrush or work with small quantities on figures and small accessories. It is simple equipment that comes in useful in the workshop practically every day.

The aid contains neither paints nor thinners. When cleaning with thinners, ventilate and protect your skin and eyes, as thinners are flammable.
