A set of die-cut paper leaves with which trees, bushes and climbing vegetation in dioramas and vignettes are covered. It is neither a kit nor a finished tree; it is a scenic material from which you build the vegetation yourself. Against loose scatter, paper foliage has a fundamental advantage: it has the real shape of a leaf and is thin, so it looks convincing even close up and in a photograph. The designation Spring aims at fresh spring vegetation, and the number one is the first variant of this part of the range.
Prepare the armature of the tree from wire, from string or from a ready-made blank, and finish the trunk and the branches. Take the leaves in small amounts with tweezers and glue them with thinned PVA glue or with matte varnish; thinned glue holds better, because it soaks into the paper. You gain volume by pressing the center of a leaf in slightly with a round tool, after which it stops looking flat. Work from the top down and from the ends of the branches toward the trunk and keep checking the silhouette of the crown; real trees have their foliage unevenly, with gaps through which the sky shows.
Paper reacts sensitively to water, so when you are repainting or toning the foliage, work with light passes and let them dry between coats, otherwise it will wrinkle. Unify the color shade so that it goes with the grass and the ground under the tree, and let some of the leaves fall loose onto the ground at the foot of the trunk; that connects the tree with the scene. Store the rest of the set in a closed bag, so that the leaves are not blown about and torn.
