About product

Golan Dark Earth Powder Pigment from Lifecolor

A dark earthy shade from the Lifecolor dry pigment range. It is a loose powder, not a liquid product: it is picked up with a dry brush and rubbed straight into the surface of the model. In color it aims at a dark, slightly brownish earth of the kind that holds on the lower areas of vehicles and in the corners that neither air nor a hand reaches for a long time.

Where dust settles

You will find most of it on horizontal surfaces that nobody uses: the covers over the engine compartment, the platforms behind the turret, the upper sides of the fenders, the floors of stowage bins. Then in every recess that catches a deposit, that is around rivets, along welds, in the corners of superstructures, at hinges and in engraved lines. And of course low down, under the fenders and around the running gear.

Where it does not settle

This is the part where pigment weathering most often breaks down. Dust does not stay where the crew reaches or treads: on grab handles, on the edges of hatches, on steps, on the top surface of the side fenders people climb over. Nor does it stay on leading edges, which are blown clean in motion. The procedure is therefore in two stages: apply the pigment with a brush over the whole area and then take it off precisely these places with a cotton swab or a stiffer dry brush. The resulting difference between a dusted and a wiped surface looks more convincing than any carefully graded veil.

Who it is for

  • modelers of military vehicles and dioramas who work with darker earths
  • everyone who wants weathering that stays controllable and correctable at any time
  • as a darker counterpart to neutral dust shades

A dry pigment is a loose powder. Do not work with it in a draft, do not inhale it, do not blow the excess away with your mouth and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

With a dry brush. The powder is picked up, the excess is tapped off and the pigment is rubbed into the surface of the model with short strokes. Nothing is mixed beforehand.

On grab handles, the edges of hatches, steps and edges that the crew normally touches or treads on. There the deposit rubs away, and a model looks more convincing when those places are clean.

Yes. As long as nothing has fixed it, it holds mechanically and can be partly taken off, moved or removed entirely with a dry brush or a cotton swab.

Mainly yes, but it will serve just as well on diorama bases, on construction and agricultural vehicles or on figures standing in terrain.
