A liquid modeling preparation intended for photo-etched parts, the manufacturer's part number AK174. It is applied to finished photo-etched details; the exact procedure and the working time are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched part is a thin metal sheet, most often brass. Its surface is smooth, shiny and tends to be greasy from manufacture and from fingers, so ordinary modeling paint holds on it considerably worse than on plastic. Anyone who skips this step will end up with the finish peeling off exactly on those finest elements that made the photo-etched set worth adding in the first place.
First degrease the parts and let them dry, because no preparation works reliably on a greasy surface. Work with tweezers over a mat, as small elements are apt to ping away. Apply the liquid with a brush or dip the part into it, and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging for the working time and for the subsequent rinsing and drying. Before you use the preparation on a finished assembly, try it on an offcut from the photo-etched fret left over once the parts have been removed.
Work in a well-ventilated area and close the container carefully after use so that the contents do not dry out. Store the preparation out of the reach of children and away from food. Do not apply leftovers to already painted areas of the model, as they could attack the finish.
The preparation is supplied on its own. Photo-etched sets, brushes, tweezers and other tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
