A collector's bust cast in resin in 1:12 scale. It is not a kit of a vehicle but a figure model meant above all to be painted - the value of a finished piece rests on the quality of the casting and on the painter's work, not on the number of parts. The brand Abteilung 502 has long specialized in figure castings in resin, and their modeling is done so as to work well with light when painting with acrylics as well as with oils.
The subject refers to piracy in the Indian Ocean at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. Madagascar and the islands around it served crews operating in the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea as a base for taking on supplies and repairing ships. The year 1720 in the name falls at the close of the period that the literature calls the golden age of piracy; the dress of the figures of that time combined elements of sailors' clothing with captured pieces of civilian and military dress, which gives figure painters wide room for a color approach.
Wash the resin castings first in lukewarm water with dish soap - remains of the mold release agent otherwise prevent the paint from adhering. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and never break them; sand the surface after the cut. Protect your airways while sanding resin, as the dust must not be breathed in. Join the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate), reinforcing the joint with a small pin of wire if need be. A thin coat of primer follows, and only then the painting. On skin, oil paints work well for smooth transitions, while cloth and metal take acrylics with gradual brightening of the edges.
The bust is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
