Abteilung 502 Primary Blue is a modeling acrylic paint in a basic blue shade, intended among other things as a starting color for mixing your own tones.
Responsibility details are not available.
The primary blue from the Abteilung 502 acrylic line. The name suggests what the shade is primarily intended for: it is not a finished period color but a clean basic tone from which a modeler mixes his own shades. The binder is acrylic and the paint is thinned with water, or with a thinner for acrylics. It is not combined with oil and enamel products in one wet coat.
Basic colors make the most sense as a set: adding white leads to more pastel and lighter tones, adding a small amount of yellow shifts the blue toward green, a drop of red toward violet, and black darkens the shade but at the same time dirties it and takes away saturation. For darkening, a dark brown or a dark blue tends to be more practical than black. Always mix a drop at a time, because a saturated blue pigment has great tinting strength and quickly prevails in a mix. It pays to mix on a wet palette and to write the proportions down, otherwise the same shade will not be hit a second time and topping up halfway through the work will end in a visible difference.
For modelers and figure painters who mix their own shades and want a palette built on clean basic colors. Anyone looking for a finished shade to a period color chart will rather need a particular named color.
Close the bottle carefully after use and stir the contents before applying it again. When spraying, provide ventilation and protect your airways. Keep out of the reach of children and protect from frost.
