A smooth Evergreen polystyrene strip with a 0.3x2.3 mm section. A versatile material for cladding, battens and strips, supplied singly.
Responsibility details are not available.
Evergreen supplies smooth polystyrene profiles in closely graded sizes, and this one belongs to the group derived from HO size. A 0.3x2.3 mm section corresponds in 1:87 to a board one inch thick and eight inches wide, so it has the proportions of real timber.
Where it has its place. Flat strips are the hardest-working item of the whole range. They become the cladding of walls and doors, decking, battens, window frames, the trim of crates and tubs, stiffeners under the floor of a wagon or a filler in a seam during a conversion. Because it is pure styrene it behaves exactly like the plastic from a kit: it is cut with a scalpel against a ruler, sanded, bent after warming and painted with the same paints as the rest of the model.
Gluing. The cleanest joint comes from a thin extra liquid cement applied with a brush into a seam that has already been seated. Capillary action draws it under the part and the plastic welds itself together, without a visible bead. Super glue holds too, but the joint is more brittle and hard to correct.
Neighbors in the range. At the same 0.3 mm thickness the range offers widths of 0.6, 0.8, 1.1, 1.7, 2.3, 2.8 and 3.4 mm. When you build a wall from planks of several widths, you can move between them without the thickness of the cladding changing and creating steps.
Lay the planks with small gaps between them. Without seams the whole area merges into a single casting, whereas visible gaps divide it into separate pieces, which a wash then picks out.
