A hollow styrene tube with an outside diameter of 5.5 mm. The through bore allows a telescopic joint with a thinner profile of the same range.
Responsibility details are not available.
A round hollow profile has one fundamental advantage over a solid rod: the inside stays open, so the end can take something in. A thinner piece of the same range is slid into the tube, which creates a telescopic joint with which you extend a mast, put together a stepped funnel or suggest the muzzle of a barrel without having to drill.
A thin wall stands up badly to pressure. So do not press down with the knife but turn the tube against a blade laid flat until the score meets all the way round; the material then separates by itself and the cross section stays round. A tapered drill bit turned between your fingers removes the burr inside. A crushed end can never be brought back to its original shape.
When gluing, count on the solvent softening the wall all the way round; an excess shows up as a dip which varnish will emphasize further. It is safer to apply the cement to the inner face of the joint and to leave the parts fixed until the solvent has gone. Anyone who wants a perfectly square end should clamp the tube in a clothes peg and sand the end down on a glass plate covered with abrasive paper.
Keep the short pieces left over; as spacer rings or collars they strengthen every pin that has to stay square.
