Puppy is one of the few models on which the Hiesbök brand has departed from a home name. Alongside Vosa, Srsen and Mravenec there are also Easy and Hawk, so both languages meet in the range. The goods themselves are a classic hand-launched glider, though: a glider that has no powerplant and gets into the air with a single throw.
Three things hold the stability. Dihedral, that is the angle at which both halves of the lifting surface are raised upward, returns the model to a level position as soon as it tilts. The position of the center of gravity ahead of the aerodynamic center decides whether the glider descends smoothly or alternately sinks and rises. And finally the setting of the elevator determines the speed of the glide. When these three come together, even a small model can glide a surprisingly long distance.
On a warm day heated air rises above dark surfaces and a light glider sails into it easily. You can tell because instead of descending the model starts to circle at the same height or even climbs. That is exactly why free-flight models are flown rather in the morning and in the evening, when the air is calm and the behavior of the machine can be judged honestly. During the day there is a risk of a rising current carrying the model out of sight.
The launching area should be clear, with no trees, poles or stretches of water. You throw into the wind and never toward people. After a hard landing it is worth looking the model over at once, because a crack at the root of the surface will certainly widen on the next throw. A small repair is easy while it is still clear what exactly gave way.
