This set from the SPACE line of the Czech brand Eduard offers 3D-printed decals for the cockpit interior of a model of the Lockheed PV-1 in 1:48 scale. The parts have relief of their own, so once applied they read as a molded part, and yet they come off the backing paper like a decal. It is an accessory for a kit, not a model.
The Lockheed PV-1 Ventura was a twin-engine aircraft derived from a civil design and used mainly for patrolling over the sea and for light bombing duties. It had a roomy forward cockpit with large glazed areas, so when the model is built the interior is clearly visible and an empty pilot's section is hard to hide.
3D decals are stiffer than ordinary ones, which is an advantage in handling: they can be picked up by the edge with flat-jawed tweezers without curling straight away. Do not immerse them in water: moisten only the backing paper beneath them with a damp sponge and leave them to rest aside for a while, until they start to slide on the backing. With the SPACE line a decal softener is not used, as it would attack the printed resin. Degrease the area in the cockpit beforehand, lift the decal off with tweezers, set it into a drop of PVA glue and press it down gently with a cotton swab through a paper tissue, so that the moisture is squeezed out from under the motif. Then put the model aside and let the set dry undisturbed for several hours, ideally overnight. Impatiently putting the cockpit together while it is still damp under the decal is the most common cause of shifted instrument panels.
The package contains the decals only. The model, paints and glue are not part of it.
