An AK Interactive modeling paint from the Real Colors line in the shade RAF Dark Earth, the muted brown of British camouflage. 17 ml bottle.
Responsibility details are not available.
Dark Earth is a muted earthy brown, the second half of the classic British pairing for upper surfaces. From the late 1930s it was sprayed together with the shade Dark Green as the camouflage of Royal Air Force aircraft. On day fighters, gray replaced it on the upper surfaces from 1941 onward, but on bombers and other types the brown persisted.
The shade belongs on the upper surfaces of early-war British aircraft and suits anywhere a restrained brown without a shift toward rust or ocher is needed. It also serves as part of desert camouflage, where the brown is combined with a lighter sand tone. Away from aircraft, it suits earthy grime and muted brown areas on figures, vehicles and dioramas.
The bottle must be shaken thoroughly before use, since the pigment settles to the bottom. The paint is applied in several thin coats onto a degreased, dust-free surface, ideally over a primer that evens out the absorbency of plastic, filler and add-on parts. Thinning, spray pressure and tool cleaning follow the manufacturer's instructions on the package; use the thinner recommended for this line. A sharp boundary between the two camouflage colors can be made with a mask, a soft transition by spraying freehand from a shorter distance and at lower pressure.
The paint alone is supplied in a 17 ml bottle. Thinner, primer, final varnish and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
