In the German standard, RAL 7008 carries the name Graugrün, that is, gray-green. The 7000 number series belongs to the gray shades in that standard, and RAL shades are established among modelers above all for German military equipment. The shade is subdued, with a marked green cast, so on a model it reads neither as pure gray nor as military green.
The paint comes from the 3rd Generation range of the manufacturer AK interactive, and the suffix AFV in the name marks the group of shades for armored equipment. The volume of the bottle, the covering power and the resulting sheen are given on the packaging. Choose the thinner intended for this range and set the thinning ratio according to the instructions of the manufacturer.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before use; paints with pigment settle while standing. Apply in thin coats and let each one dry: a single heavy coat floods the engraved lines and the raised relief, while three thin ones give a smooth, even surface. Thin the paint for an airbrush and leave it thicker for a brush. On a well-prepared and degreased surface the paint holds considerably better, and on smooth areas a primer pays off.
The paint suits a modeler who builds equipment to the surviving shade standards and wants to be sure that paints from one range behave the same way. The shade also serves well as a base for shading: on large surfaces it is often good to lighten the center of a panel and leave the edges darker, so that the model does not look flat.
