Leather jackets, combed-up hair and two couples in an embrace. A set of 1950s street youth for HO size in a ratio of 1:87.
Responsibility details are not available.
A leather jacket and a carefully combed hairstyle were the marks of the young generation that gathered at drugstores and gas stations in the 1950s. The set catches that world without embellishment: one couple stands arm in arm while the man tidies his hair, a second couple stands beside them, he with his arms folded, she with a hand on her hip.
Two separate men belong with them. The first leans with his palm against a wall, the second tugs at his leather jacket. Both poses are static and that is exactly the point: this crowd is in no hurry and its stance is really the whole content of the scene.
On a layout figures like these suit walls and corners. The leaning man needs a vertical surface, so a scene naturally arises by the wall of a warehouse, at the corner of a store or in a passage between buildings. The couples are then set out a little further away, so that a free sidewalk is left between them.
The abbreviation HO translates into numbers as 1:87. That matters above all because figures of this type are often combined with car models, and with cars the size is easy to get wrong. The set suits cars intended for this size with no further adjustment.
Groups of young people have one more function on a layout: they give a place a time. A station and a factory area look almost the same for decades, but the stance and the clothing of figures suggest which period a scene belongs to. It therefore pays not to mix them with figures from a markedly different period.
