Atlantis texture roller (Green Stuff World)

A texture roller is a tool that presses a continuous relief into modeling putty while it is still pliable. The cylinder has the Atlantis motif from the maker's fantasy and undersea line engraved around its circumference, so a single pass creates an area that you would otherwise have to build up piece by piece with a graver and filler. Green Stuff World is a Spanish maker of modeling chemicals and aids, and texture rollers are among its most widespread product lines. The roller itself contains no putty and no paint; those are bought separately.

Use

• Roll two-part epoxy putty, air-drying clay or polymer clay out on a smooth surface into an even layer.
• Lightly dampen the surface of the putty and the roller or treat them with a release agent so that the putty does not stick in the pattern.
• Run the roller across smoothly in one pass, without stopping and without going back, otherwise the impression will double up.
• Let the impression cure fully and only then trim the slab to the shape of a base or a diorama floor.
• Once it has cured the usual procedure follows: base color, highlighting with a dry brush and a wash into the recesses.
