Diamond Plate Small texture roller (Green Stuff World)

This item is a reduced version of the roller with a raised tread plate pattern, the surface known in Czech as teardrop plate. The Small designation refers to a finer rendering of the same motif, which works better where the ordinary pattern would look too coarse against the build. The roller is used by running it over modeling putty while it is still pliable, pressing the relief into it. Green Stuff World is a Spanish maker of modeling chemicals and aids.

Use

• Roll the putty out on a smooth surface into a thin, even layer; with a fine pattern the thickness of the layer is crucial.
• Dampen the putty and the roller or treat them with a release agent so that the small ridges do not clog.
• Make one smooth pass with moderate pressure; a fine pattern takes less pressure than a coarse one.
• Let it cure fully, and only then cut it to shape and glue it onto a model or a base.
• A metal undercoat, highlighted edges and a dark wash will bring the pattern out.

The smaller variant of the pattern is the logical choice for modelers who build in finer scales, who detail small areas such as steps, hatches and small platforms, or who work on wargaming bases where coarse plate would take away scale credibility.
