Five small files with a diamond abrasive surface. Unlike ordinary steel files, which cut the material away with a tooth, a diamond surface grinds it down - which is why it copes even with materials on which a steel tooth clogs or blunts: with cured resin, with photo-etched sheet, with white metal and with hard two-part putty. The particular profiles and the grit are not stated by the manufacturer; sets of this type tend to be made up of a flat, a half-round, a round, a triangular and a square profile, but that is a general pointer, not a breakdown of the package.
For modelers who have already got as far as resin sets, photo-etched parts or printed parts. On ordinary polystyrene a diamond file is, by contrast, too aggressive and above all clogs quickly with the soft plastic; a sanding sponge or paper is better for that. The set is therefore not bought instead of abrasive paper, but alongside it.
Work by drawing the file and without pressure, as pressure smooths the diamond layer out and the file stops biting. Clean the files with a brush under running water and let them dry out before storing. Protect your airways when sanding resin - its dust should not be breathed in, not even during short work on a single part.
