Terrain without a frame

Building landscape in the classic way means a frame of battens, mesh or strips of paper over it and only then plaster. This material replaces the whole intermediate stage. The sheet can be shaped by hand into a hill, a cutting or a bank and it stays in position of itself, so there is no need to put anything under it or to hold anything in place until it sets.

The dimensions of the roll

The package holds one roll 22.9 cm wide and 183 cm long, that is a strip with an area of about four tenths of a square meter. The narrower version suits strips along a track, the slopes of cuttings and smaller dioramas, where a wide sheet would mean needless waste in the trimming.

How it is worked

The material is cut with ordinary scissors and the individual strips can be lapped over one another. The shape can be changed even repeatedly, so when a hill turns out too steep it is enough to press it in again instead of starting over. The layer of plaster that follows bonds with the sheet mechanically, and the result is a thin shell that is hard once it has set and light at the same time.

Everywhere it finds a use

Besides layouts and dioramas it suits backdrops, display bases and small modeling tasks away from railroads. The surface is ready for further work: the pattern of a rock can be carved into it, scatter can be sprinkled into the wet plaster or it can be repainted once it has set. The manufacturer states the material as patented.

How much area comes out of a roll

A strip almost two meters long will do for several separate tasks: a modeler usually cuts off only as much as will cover the slope being built and leaves the rest rolled up. In that it differs from compounds in bags, where a batch once mixed has to be used up in full.
