A set of four acrylic shades for Second World War Soviet uniforms. It covers the whole range from dark olive in the folds to faded yellow-green on the highest highlights.

A Red Army soldier only looks convincing in a display case when his tunic is not a single flat area. The khaki the Soviet infantry fought in changed quickly in the field: a freshly issued gymnastyorka held a rich olive tone, but after a few weeks of rain and sun it faded to a yellowish green and lightened most of all on the shoulders, the sleeves and the back.
The four shades are put together for exactly that spread. The set holds Dark Olive Green FS-34130, Yellow Green FS-34259, Pale Yellow Green FS-33481 and Medium Russian Green FS-34092. The FS numbers belong to the American Federal Standard color reference, so a color can be identified by its code at any time and does not have to be guessed by eye years later.
Lay the darkest green down as the base and leave it in the folds and under the equipment. The middle tone belongs on the surfaces facing the light, and the two light shades on the edges of the collar, the breast pockets and the tops of the sleeves. Even the transitions out with a glaze of heavily thinned middle green. A winter scene suits a light touch of gray from dust, a summer campaign more yellow.
These are water-thinnable acrylics intended mainly for the brush; once thinned, an airbrush handles them too. Always shake the bottle well, the pigment settles to the bottom.
