A plastic kit of the caricature character Superfink from the classic production of the Monogram brand. It is not a vehicle or an aircraft but a figure in the style of the hot rod drawings that the American customizer and illustrator Ed Roth made famous in the 1960s. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; no scale is given for it, which is usual with figures of this type, as the size comes from the design, not from a ratio to a real subject.
The characters from the world of the so-called Finks are deliberately exaggerated caricatures: bulging eyes, a stuck-out tongue, oversized details. They came about as part of American hot rod and custom culture, and in the 1960s model companies turned them into plastic kits, which over time became collector classics. Do not expect technical accuracy, then, but a striking comic-book shape that stands or falls with the color treatment.
With classic molds, reckon on more sensitive cleanup of the parting lines and on fine-tuning the gaps with filler; large rounded areas have to be smoothed again with fine paper after sanding, otherwise every scratch will show under gloss paint. Glue the parts with thin glue for plastic and wash the whole model in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent before painting. A caricature lives on colors: spray the base with an airbrush, add relief with a dry brush and finish the eyes and the teeth by hand with a brush in high gloss. A final gloss clear coat supports the comic-book impression better than a matte one and brings out the depth of the colors.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
