A figure bust cast in resin in 1:10 scale. A larger scale than the usual twelfth means more area for modeling the face and the clothing - and at the same time higher demands on the painting, because in a large format inaccuracies in the transitions do not hide. It is a collector's piece meant to be assembled and painted by you, not a finished decoration.
The subject of an old pirate belongs to the genre figures from the era of sail in the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean. Weathered skin, a beard and worn clothing are a rewarding theme for figure painters: they allow work with stronger contrast and with the texture of cloth, leather and metal accessories. Historically, crews dressed in whatever was at hand - no uniform existed, which gives freedom in the color approach.
Before the build, wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap and rid them of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut carefully, so that the parts seat together without a gap; protect your airways while sanding resin. Make the joints with super glue, and on heavier parts it is advisable to reinforce them with a pin of wire. A thin primer follows. In a large scale it pays to build the skin up in layers and to blend the transitions with oil paints, while clothing, leather and metal take acrylics with gradual brightening of the edges. Build the beard and the hair up with a dry brush at the very end.
The bust is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
