Japanese-made modeling nippers with an overall length of 120 millimeters in the slim version. The narrowed head reaches between densely packed parts on a sprue and into the inside of a part-built assembly. The cut is slightly rounded, so a small stub of the gate is left on the part, to be leveled with a blade or a file.
A flush cut shears the material right at the surface, but it demands more of the edge and takes harder material less well. A slightly rounded cut leaves a negligible stub, but it is gentler on the edge and handles wire as well. With this version it is therefore sensible to count on a short touch-up with a file and not to force the cut completely flush.
Cut in two goes, with the first cut a little away from the part. A slim head takes less than a full one, so do not lever with the nippers and do not cut thick gates in one bite. Work with the part of the edge closer to the joint. Wipe the jaws after work, as settled paint residue keeps them from closing.
The slim version is typically a second pair of nippers alongside ordinary ones, whose turn comes where a full head will not fit between the parts.
